Crumbling Foundation

Daily, I listen to 104.9 The River. The other day they (The River) had a commentary concerning the new animation movie, The Ten Commandments. In the commentary, The River mentioned that the person that heads up advertising for the movie approached Radio Disney about running an ad for the movie on their program. Well, after the producers for Radio Disney sampled the ad they mentioned to this gentleman, they would, only if, he would rewrite it and take out all the references to God in the ad. The gentleman from the movie then later commented in this commentary, "It is a sad thing, when in America, you can't even say God anymore." He is right, America's foundation was structured around Godly principles and this very country that was founded on His principles is excluding Him and that is a shame. I believe and I see a lot of Christians, including myself, are guilty of not reconizing or just ignoring these type of actions in our society and that is the biggest shame. We as Christians need to be more vocal about things, like what Radio Disney did, and make ourselves known and stop thinking there is nothing we can do. Everyone else in this country tends to stand up for what they believe and most of the time get results: Why can't we? Stand up for what we know is right: write letters, stop watching, stop lessoning, and stop buying into these programs. That is what we can do. ARE YOU PROUD TO BE A CHRISTIAN? ARE YOU PROUD THAT THIS COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON GODLY PRINCIPLES? THEN LET IT BE KNOWN!

You know a lot of what you said is very true. this country was based on God and now we cant even say in God we trust in our pledge of elegence. I feel like that we were based on that we shouldn't have to chance for all of those freaks out there. thats horrible that our government lets the other regliegs make our country change when that is what we are saposed to be about. i dont know i could go on and on about it.

i agree with you 100% we as christians need to stand up in our belives because if they take that away from us, our fredom to praise God the way we see is right than this country will become a comunist country. now the geys in this country are fiting to remove the ten comandments from our court of laws. and now even my pastor cant preach about the geys because he can get into troble.so we do need to stand together to keep what this country was founded on. take care hope to read more about this subject

I am proud to be a christian. I praise god most nights at the dinner table. Some people are ignorant and believe that god isnt there because he doesn't answer all of their dumb and outrageous prayers that they already know its not going to happen. But i believe he is there trying to help everyone make the right decisions and make some peoples lives better. I too think it is fuckin stupid that gods name cannot be mentioned in anything because it offends those who dont believe in him/her. i say who cares about those people because they are just praising some dead guy instead of god so its whatever.

i agree with you as far as christianity kind of being singled out. The term seperation of church is often used by people who want nativity scenes taken down from govenment property or other similar instances. for instance like the 10 commandments in the court house. the term seperation of church and state is not even in the constitution. the idea established in the constitution is freedom of religion not from religion. i think you should have the right to choose your religion in this country, but not the right to be excluded from other people religios views. I think that it's definatly a touchy subject and it will be interesting to see peoples views on the subject.

Your blog is interesting but it may be a bit miss guided. While the constitution and founding fathers did base the country on laws that could be arguable from the 10 commandments it does not mean that they wanted directly a christen nation. Remember that in the Bill of Rights “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise there of …” So in retrospect while our foundation may be based on the 10 Commandments it is because those are of things many religions base the values and morals on. Values and morals may have been what the founding fathers really intended our laws to be based on, so maybe not so much Christians but all those who may or may not be a believer, it being there choice, even if it may be seen as the wrong path to you.

Anthony--

Okay post length (although you should consider if there is a need for a break in paragraphs here).

While I am unfamiliar with this particular situation, I do have my doubts that "G/god" has become a dirty word in America. All the current presidential candidates make it abundantly clear that they pray to a Christian god, for starters. I wonder if the real concern isn't with the business models of corporations, which calls for the adherence to a rule of what will make them the most money by reacing the biggest audience.

Points to ponder indeed. In the future I'll show you how you can link to articles that describe the issues you discuss so that your readers can inform themselves.

I was unaware that Disney Radio made those statements. The problem is that Disney movies have a strong influence on children. So why deprive them of a good biblical movie that will help them build a good faith backround. Good information but I'm really bummed about Disney.
